Conor Benn sets out world title plans ahead of ‘statement’ Fight Camp appearance
Conor Benn is ready to 'set the score straight' ahead of his Fight Camp bout with Adrien Granados at the first week of Matchroom Boxing's Fight Camp.
The 'Destroyer' produce an incredible display last time out where it took him just over a minute to smash Samuel Vargas to the canvas and secure another victory to improve his record to 18-0.
And now the 24-year-old has big ambitions of becoming world champion, but has first prepared viewers for 'fireworks' ahead of his latest outing.
“Last time out – big statement,” said Benn.
“Would I have liked to get more rounds in? Of course, but I’m not going to complain about knocking him out in one round!
"I was straight off to have my Ruby Murray. I’m looking for world honours. I’m knocking on the door for World Titles.
"I’m interested to see how much further we can go, do I believe I can win a World Title? 100%."
Benn has faced lots of scrutiny as a result of his father Nigel Benn's successes in boxing, who was a former two-weight world champion in the sport.
And the new fan-favourite is keen to take any added criticism due to his family name, and set his own legacy in the sport by competing in the biggest fights.
“I’ve had a target on my back ever since I turned pro because my dad is Nigel Benn," Benn continued.
"I don’t have to be here, I have everything to lose. I’m a winner – all round. Of course I want the big fights."
During his time at the press conference at Fight Camp's announcement, Benn had heated exchanges with fellow welterweight Florian Marku who was set to fight at the event but has since withdrawn due to injury.
Several shocks have emerged on recent Matchroom cards where several North American fighters have travelled to the UK and pulled off miracle results including Josh Warrington was handed his first defeat to tough competitor Mauricio Lara.
And the British welterweight Benn has delivered a warning message to his opponent, that he is not prepared to let his own story in the sport be derailed next weekend.
"We’ve seen all of the Mexicans come over around derail some of the Brits, it’s about time I set the score straight,” Benn continued.
“Granados presents a different struggle. He’s saying he wants to box and all of that. Alright then mate – try me.
"It isn’t going to make any difference come fight night. I’m up for it – more than ever."
The WBO continental welterweight champion is set to feature alongside a host of stars at the three week tournament at Eddie Hearn's Matchroom HQ, including Joshua Buatsi, Campbell Hatton, Fabio Wardley and Savannah Marshall.
This will now be broadcast on DAZN, after the promotion label signed a new broadcasting deal with the streaming service after their previous contract with multimedia giant Sky Sports ended.
British heavyweight Joe Joyce will commence the big month of domestic action in boxing this weekend, as he takes on French warrior Carlos Takam at the SSE Arena, Wembley looking to set up a huge world title shot at Anthony Joshua.
