Conor Benn expects ‘heavyweight numbers’ ahead of Fight Camp clash
Conor Benn has revealed that he expects 'heavyweight figures' to continue to tune in to his fight against Adrian Granados at Fight Camp on Saturday night.
The British talent knocked out Samuel Vargas in the opening round last time out, with an explosive first round finish after just 82 seconds, which left fans raving about how far the 24-year-old can go in his world title charge.
And 'The Destroyer' has revealed that he expects his journey will continue to flourish to the top of the welterweight division, but he expects to be valued for his 'heavyweight numbers' that will tune in to watch the fight this Saturday night.
"Win, lose or draw I'm not going to be underpaid, I work hard. My last two fights were on Sky did heavyweight numbers so I want heavyweight cheques," Benn said on a media day ahead of the bout.
"I'm not bothered about what X, Y and Z [welterweight rivals] are doing, I'm just focused on what I'm doing.
"I speak with confidence because confidence is a luxury for the hard working, but I'm still far away from where I want to be."
Benn has become well-known in the world of boxing as a confident young star, and has called out the likes of Amir Khan and Florian Marku during his meteoric rise through the welterweight division.
His father well-known Nigel Benn has also backed his son to go right to the very top and achieve world glory, but the fighter has tried to embrace the spotlight and not let the pressure overrule him as he makes his own path.
But Benn has revealed that he will need the experience of getting rounds under his belt in his clash with Granados at the weekend, and is willing to show he is capable of performing 'under fire'.
I would like to demonstrate a lot more in this fight," Benn said.
"It's about looking good in these fights. I can't predict anything in boxing but if I bang them all out in the first round it will come a lot sooner.
"We are still seeing how far Conor Benn can go. All my 12 KOs have come in the first four rounds.
"I would like to think I can get some rounds in this time but I feel very strong at the minute.
"I need to be able to show I can keep under fire in the later rounds."
Benn's rise is still in uncharted territory as he tries to experience 'learning fights' before he can get to the top fights in the division, and has compared his world title journey to domestic rival Kell Brook who won his first world title at the age of 28.
His immediate rival in the ring at Fight Camp Granados, has revealed that he is ready to 'humble' the explosive young welterweight in their clash, but has admitted that he is fighting a 'top level opponent.
A world title clash features on the undercard at the first week of Fight Camp as British featherweight Leigh Wood is ready to u nveil his secret weapon against Chinese champion Xu Can who will look to challenge Josh Warrington should he take victory in the contest.
