Chris Eubank Jr is set to give away £60,000 worth of merchandise to fans after his proposed fight with Conor Benn on Saturday was cancelled.

Last weekend’s highly anticipated clash between Eubank Jr and Benn was called off on Thursday after Sportsmail broke the bombshell news that Benn had tested positive for banned substance clomifene.

Co-promoters Hearn and Kalle Sauerland – as well as both Eubank Jr and Benn – on Wednesday insisted they still planned for the fight to go ahead, before official confirmation came through that the fight was off.

Benn could now face a ban of up to four years, with Britain’s anti-doping chiefs poised to formally investigate the positive drug test.

And following the cancellation of the fight, Eubank Jr is now set to give back to his supporters by giving away £60,000 of his merchandise for free.

On Monday afternoon, he tweeted: ‘Tomorrow I’m doing a merch giveaway for fans that missed out over the weekend. Rathbone Boxing Club 6-8pm. All are welcome, see you there.’

The boxer, who undertook a drastic weight cut ahead of the fight, claimed the weight loss would lead to him to be just 60 per cent of his usual self.

This had led to him specifically giving £60,000 worth of merchandise to supporters on Tuesday evening.

Eubank has decided to give back after he felt ticket holders were let down following the cancellation of the bout.

He said: ‘We spent a lot of money on merch to sell at the arena on Saturday but after the fight being cancelled & so many people being let down I felt it’s only right to give it all away to the fans, in person.’

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn provided an update on Benn almost a week on from the revelations that he had tested positive for a banned substance.

‘He’s (Benn) got a big fight on his hands,’ he told Matchroom Boxing.

‘There’s a lot of information about the testing that will come to light. Everyone is very quick to make their assumptions on this sort of situation.

‘Conor Benn will have the right to clear his name and people should let him do that. It’s been a difficult situation for everybody it was a difficult situation building in to the fight.

‘The decision (to cancel the fight) was discussed between all parties involved in the fight from the fighters, to the promoters to the commission.

‘We wanted Benn to have his opportunity as many have before to be heard and that will now happen post fight – Let him have that moment.

‘Its a very important time for him. Some people have made their mind up as they have done before. Let the facts come out and then make a decision.’

The offer of merchandise from Eubank Jr is not the first time the boxer has attempted to help out following the bout with Benn being cancelled.

On Friday, he offered to pay for a ‘distraught’ fan to have a tattoo of Conor Benn removed from his body.

Benn has been heavily criticised since the cancellation of the fight and upset many of his fans including one Twitter user who had a tattoo of Benn on his abdomen.
