Carl Froch says he’s "still in talks" for Roy Jones Jr exhibition fight
Carl Froch says talks are still ongoing with Roy Jones Jr over a potential exhibition bout.
The Cobra has not fought professionally since stopping George Groves at Wembley in their second bout in May 2014.
Former world super middleweight king Froch has floated the idea of a return to the ring in a shorter exhibition bout in the meantime, and reports earlier this year suggested he was close to agreeing a deal with Jones Jr.
Speculation has since cooled, but the Nottingham fighter says discussions are still taking place.
"We're still in talks about potentially doing something," he told IFL TV. "If we can put an event on and put a good show on with some old legends, then why not?
"People are desperate to get out and have a bit of fun. If I can be part of entertaining people, then I'm happy do it. So we'll wait and see what happens.
"We're still back and forth. We're still trying to negotiate who's going to do what and put a strategic plan together. But nothing to report yet."
Jones Jr, 52, fought professionally until Februry 2018, winning his last bout against Scott Sigmon in Florida to leave the former four-weight world champion with a record of 66-9.
He fought Mike Tyson in an exhibition bout in November last year, a fight which attracted to the sixth-largest PPV audience in boxing history.
Speaking earlier this year, Jones Jr said: "Carl Froch says I’m shot to bits. Well, okay. But show me, show me that I’m shot to bits.
“Show me. I don’t care, show me that I’m shot to bits. Wembley Stadium, live – 80, 100,000, I don’t care. Show me that I’m shot to bits. When you get right, come see me.”
But Froch believes he would have too much for his illustrious rival.
"If Roy Jones hits me with a jab on the nose and I’m thinking, ‘Ow, that hurt,’ I’m gonna be looking to land an uppercut," he told talkSPORT.
“It could all get out of hand.”
