Canelo Alvarez and Eddie Hearn ‘close in on deal’ involving Gennady Golovkin
Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin could complete their historic trilogy later this year with the undisputed super middleweight champion 'closing in' on a new deal with Eddie Hearn.
Canelo, who has held world titles from light middleweight all the way up to light heavyweight, scraped past Golovkin by majority decision back in 2018 after a controversial 2017 draw.
The Mexican has gone on to take his overall tally to 57 wins from 60 fights, beating Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant in style during the last 14 months.
Golovkin, on the other hand, has secured wins over Steve Rolls, Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Kamil Szeremeta since his only career defeat – which he will be looking to avenge.
ESPN reports that Hearn's Matchroom Boxing are 'closing in' on a two-fight deal for Canelo to compete on DAZN, which is worth £62million.
The first fight would see the 31-year-old return to light-heavyweight to take on current WBA champion Dmitry Bivol, before taking on Golovkin, who holds the IBF Middleweight strap.
However, with Canelo needing to beat Bivol for the fight to stay on track, Golovkin will need to see off the challenge of Ryota Murata in Tokyo this spring.
While the deal has not yet been agreed, the report says that 'negotiations are approaching the finish line'.

Hearn told IFL TV back in November: "I think the GGG fight is going to be such a big fight, and there’s going to be an announcement about him very soon.
"He’s got a big unification fight coming up. The GGG verses Canelo fight is a massive fight and probably the biggest money fight out there for Canelo.
"But he’s got enough money. It’s not just about who pays the most money, and it’s got to be a fight that motivates him."
