It is finally here. Over a year in the making, there will be no place to hide when Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders step through the ropes in the early hours of Sunday morning in Texas. The super-middleweight unification was due to take place a year ago on Cinco de Mayo weekend before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the world of sports.

Canelo has been eager to get his hands on Saunders ever since the fiery Brit gatecrashed his press conference with Gennady Golovkin in London back in 2017.

Saunders has already made it clear that he is not in Texas to make up the numbers, as he looks to execute one of the biggest upsets in recent boxing history.

The 31-year-old certainly has the tools to answer questions of Canelo, whose last real competitive fight was 18 months ago against Sergey Kovalev at light-heavyweight.

One of Canelo’s toughest career outings was against another southpaw in Erislandy Lara back in 2014.

Although the pound-for-pound great has improved vastly since then, Saunders’ technical style, use of the jab and slick footwork is reminiscent of Lara.

The build up to this fight has not been disappointing either, with Saunders certainly selling the fight.

He was left frustrated by the absence of a British judge on the panel before refusing to bow down to Canelo’s 20ft ring quest.

The gypsy warrior from Hertfordshire managed to strike a deal that will see him box Canelo inside a 22ft ring instead.

Canelo’s team have been left frustrated by Saunders’ antics and his behaviour inside the bubble after he told a Mexican reporter that his “breath was like s***”.

Things are now nicely poised for a cracking main event at the AT&T Stadium and there will be 70,000 fans in attendance, a new record for an American indoor area.

It will also be the biggest sporting event since the pandemic turned the world upside-down.

Tyson Fury will also be in attendance to support his friend and there is every chance that his undisputed heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua could be made official after the fight.

Here is everything you need to know about how you can watch the action…

TV channel and how to watch Canelo vs Saunders

Unfortunately, the super-middleweight unification will not be on TV.

However, it will be shown live on DAZN around the world and you can sign up easily.

There is no bumper £19.99 PPV price, instead you will just have to pay £1.99 for a monthly subscription.

DAZN appears to be the future of boxing and you can also watch a host of other fights on the streaming service in the coming months.

Once you have signed up, you can watch online or via the app on smartphones, laptops, games consoles and smart TVs.

Fight Time

The main event is expected to get underway from around 4am BST.

This is subject to delays though and there is every chance it could be much closer to 5am.

It’s your call whether you want to stay up for the long haul or set an alarm, if it’s the latter 3:50am would be sensible to assess the picture.

Prediction

It’s a tough bout to score but we think Canelo will see the job through on the scorecards.

Saunders has to start fast and get some rounds banked, whether he can keep his foot on the gas is another question.
