Boxing superstar Gervonta Davis facing trial for ‘Lamborghini hit-and-run’

Unbeaten boxing world champion Gervonta Davis is facing a trial being accused of being involved in a hit-and-run crash in Baltimore last year. If convicted he could face up to seven years in jail.

The WBA junior lightweight champ, 26, has been indicted on 14 different counts of traffic violations following an incident in November.

Davis' case – which includes four counts of failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of accident involving bodily injury – was filed in the Circuit Court for Baltimore earlier this week.

Baltimore City court documents say police responded to an accident just before 2 a.m. on the night in question, where they found a 2020 Lamborghini SUV crashed into a 2004 Toyota coupe.

Four people in the Toyota were hospitalised, with Davis being accused of fleeing the scene with two counterparts after driving the vehicle.

Davis is yet to comment publicly on the charges and it is unclear how he intends to plead.

But should he be convicted on all 14 charges, he faces a potential maximum sentence of seven years and 55 days in prison.

State Attorney Marilyn Mosby said: "Fortunately, the victims in this case were able to survive this alleged hit-and-run collision with recoverable injuries despite the potential for a far worst scenario.

"My office will continue to do our part to hold reckless drivers accountable when their harmful actions put innocent lives in jeopardy."

The alleged hit-and-run took place just days after Davis scored another victory in the ring.

The 'Tank' beat Leo Santa Cruz with a stunning sixth-round knockout.

Davis is no stranger to finding himself in trouble with the law, however, with many altercations overshadowing his stellar boxing career.

In early 2020, the boxer was charged with battery following an altercation with his ex-girlfriend.

Davis handed himself into police after he was seen grabbing the throat of the mother of his daughter at a celebrity basketball game.

He was previously arrested for a reported street fight in 2018.
