The press conference ahead of Saturday’s Misfits Boxing fight between Tom Zanetti and Jayden King descended into carnage after the former squirted his rival with a water pistol. The two will go head-to-head at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena, on the promotion of YouTube sensation KSI, and if the fight is as chaotic as the build-up then fans will be in for a treat.

The mayhem started when Leeds-based DJ Zanetti stood up, leaned over Astrid Wett sat next to him, and squirted his opponent at the other side of the room. King, best known for his acting role in A Monster Called Charles, reacted furiously, and within seconds the pair were having a physical altercation before security men pulled them apart.

KSI himself seemed to be enjoying the scenes, captured laughing at the back of the room as the two men reluctantly returned to their seats. And then Zanetti started talking on the microphone, saying: “Let me tell you something, yeah? This guy (King) has got zero intelligence. Talk about low blows, he was talking about my son on Instagram…”

“You son is a d***head” interrupted King, before sending further verbal volleys the way of Zanetti. And this time, it was the DJ who lost his head, and he was held back as he lunged at King, before then even trying to come around the other side of the table to get at him from a different angle.

Again, staff members managed to nulify the heated situation. After footage surfaced, boxing fans were left split on what they thought of the altercation: “Can’t wait to see these two fight honestly one of the best press conferences for sure,” said @ESkeletoqz, while @dtgyeahyeah added: “It’s kicking offfff.”

The majority failed to see the funny side though, lamenting the episode and DAZN, who are broadcasting Saturday’s Misfits Boxing card live. “Absolutely woeful,” wrote @DoLL_1987. “Mockeries are getting more and more depressing,” while @BTPWBAv2 scathingly posted “Boxing is being made into a children’s game. What a shame.”

The scenes brought back memories of the infamous media conference brawl played out by Derek Chisora and David Haye, which led to ‘Del Boy’ temporarily having his boxing licence revoked. The incident has added to an already turbulent few weeks for the sport.

First, negotiations for a blockbuster bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fell through, with both sides left blaming each other for the breakdown in talks. That was followed by the Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr bout being cancelled two days beforehand, after it emerged Benn had failed a drugs test.
