Boxers random act of kindness sees homeless man given £90,000-a-year job

Former boxing champion Tevin Farmer has pledged to “change one life a year” after revealing his generous act of charity towards a homeless man.

The American boxer is a former IBF super featherweight champion who once went unbeaten for eight years from when he was stopped by Jose Pedraza in 2012.

Farmer hasn’t been seen in the ring since January 2020, however, when he suffered defeat at the hands of Joseph Diaz Jr

But he is finding new ways to occupy his time in between bouts — and revealed on Tuesday that he has hired a homeless man to work for him on a $10,000-a-month (£7,537) salary.

"Met a homeless guy today. He was so cold outside,” Farmer tweeted via his official Twitter account.

“Took him 2 [sic] the store. Bought him everything he needed. Paid for a hotel for 2 weeks. Hired him to work 4 me, making 10K+ a month.

“My heart is so full. I couldn't see him in the cold with nothing. My goal is to change 1 life a year.

"There’s nothing like helping somebody and changing their life. Literally changing their life.”

Farmer clarified that he would not be posting details of the unidentified man’s situation, but revealed which role he handed him after receiving questions from his followers.

“For all of you wondering how he’s going to be making so much money, luckily he have a CLASS A CDL driving license and I own a trucking company,” he added.

"I am not posting this man bad situation. When he become better. I’ll post him speaking about it. Have a great night.”

The 31-year-old suffered a serious hand injury in 2017 when he was shot at a birthday party after trying to disarm a person with a gun.

Five months later, he was back in the ring to fight against Kenichi Ogawa, only to miss out on the IBF title in the 130lbs weight class.

It later transpired that the Japanese fighter had failed a drug test and was therefore stripped of the win.

Farmer reclaimed the IBF belt when he defeated Billy Dib and went on to defend his title five more times.

His defeat to Diaz Jr brought an end to that run and, now a free agent after leaving DiBella Entertainment, Farmer is hoping to move up to 135lbs on his return to boxing.

The fighter was candid in admitting that he has experienced the most difficult period of his career, describing the last 18 months as a “long journey”.

Posting on Instagram, he wrote: ”It’s been a long journey. This past year for me in boxing has been the most difficult. Even though I never showed it.

"It’s time to move forward and really get what I deserved. I am now officially a free agent.

“It’s the start to something special. I wanna thank everyone that made this possible."
