Bob Arum reveals Tyson Fury will return to the ring in March or April

Tyson Fury will return to the ring in March or April next year, promoter Bob Arum reveals… as he discusses Dillian Whyte and an undisputed showdown with Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk

  • Tyson Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder in the 11th round of their trilogy bout
  • The Gypy King retained his WBC belt as he put their long-term rivalry to bed
  • US promoter Bob Arum believes Fury will return to the ring in March or April
  • He says Anthony Joshua is making a mistake by fighting Oleksandr Usyk again

Tyson Fury will likely make a return to the ring in March or April next year, his US promoter Bob Arum has revealed.

The Gypsy King ended his historic trilogy with Deontay Wilder in emphatic style over the weekend as he survived two knockdowns to secure an 11th-round stoppage victory.

Fury, who was handed a 45-day medical suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following his victory, was unwilling to discuss his boxing future in the immediate aftermath.

But Arum, who revealed he has briefly spoken to the Gypsy King upon his return to England, believes it won’t be long before the WBC champion steps into the ring once more.

Prior to their respective bouts against Wilder and Oleksandr Usyk, the plan was for Fury and Anthony Joshua to square off in a double-header for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion in 2022.

Joshua lost his WBA, WBO and IBF titles in a unanimous decision defeat to the Ukrainian in September, however, with promoter Eddie Hearn since revealing they have activated the contractually-agreed rematch clause.

Arum believes Fury will fight at a similar time to the rematch next year, with an undisputed showdown then able to take place a matter of months later.

Joshua has activated the contractually-agreed rematch and will take on Usyk again next year

‘Joshua and Usyk, I think they’re going to wait until April 4,’ Arum told FightHub.

‘I think Fury will fight again in March or April. Then we can look to a September or October match for a unification.’

Both Arum and Fury’s UK promoter Frank Warren have implored Joshua to step aside and allow the current heavyweight champions to fight for all of the belts, a proposal that was emphatically shot down by Hearn.

But Arum believes Joshua is making a huge mistake in taking the immediate rematch, insisting there is no way he beats Usyk.

‘Eddie thought Joshua wouldn’t be amenable to a step aside and would want to do the rematch,’ Arum explained.

‘Which is sort of stupidity on his part because no way is he going to beat Usyk in his next fight no matter what new strategy he deploys.’

Asked whether Usyk is simply too talented, Arum added: ‘Yeah, too talented, and he’s a little chinny, Joshua is.

‘The only way you’re going to beat Usyk is to pin him and corner him with your high weight and pressure him.

‘But then he can unload against you. Now, a Tyson Fury can absorb that, as we all know, but Anthony Joshua has a suspect chin.’

Arum does not believe Dillian Whyte will be able to get past Otto Wallin on October 30

Wallin memorable gave Fury all sorts of problems when the pair squared off back in 2019

Prior to Fury and Joshua’s recent outings, the Gypsy King outlined his ideal next five fights, which included Dillian Whyte after beating Wilder once more.

The Brixton boxer has since been officially named mandatory challenger to Fury’s WBC strap and will most likely be the next contender.

However, he must first get through the test of Otto Wallin on October 30, which Arum believes is a tough ask.

‘I don’t think Dillian Whyte beats Wallin,’ he said. ‘I mean Tyson fought Wallin, he’s a tough, tough Swedish dude.

‘So let’s see how Whyte does with Wallin before we make plans for Fury to fight Whyte.’
