Anthony Joshua would be ‘massacred’ if he was to fight Tyson Fury this year, according to Bob Arum.
The two heavyweights seemed to agree on a long-awaited bout for later this year following a Twitter exchange, with discussions ongoing between both parties.
Arum, however, who promotes Fury, speaking to Boxing Social via The Mirror, has doubted the possibility of the fight taking place before 2023 because of Joshua’s situation after back-to-back defeats against Oleksandr Usyk.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua appeared to agree to a fight on Twitter in a Twitter exchange
‘I don’t think it’s going to happen,’ said the 90-year-old.
‘While Fury would want it to happen, I put myself in the shoes of Eddie Hearn and Joshua, and, after losing twice to Usyk, the first thing you want to do is get him back in the ring and get him two fights where it restores confidence.
‘If he goes back in the ring now with Fury, it’s going to be a massacre.’
Joshua seemed set to take an extended break but Fury sent his fellow Brit an public offer for a bout in a Twitter video earlier this week.
Joshua replied saying he was up for the match, but that the Gypsy King had to negotiate with his agency before anything was arranged.

Fury made a 60-40 split offer, which Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has publicly accepted, but there is believed to be an issue with dates, with Fury wanting to fight as soon as possible and Joshua wanting more time.
The bout doesn’t hold as much interest as when Joshua was undefeated, but many are still keen to see the two heavyweights square off.
The two were supposed to fight last summer after Joshua had regained his titles after a shock defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr, but Fury had to fight Deontay Wilder first as Joshua lost to Usyk twice.
Arum said he thinks Eddie Hearn will want Joshua to have two easier fights before facing Fury
Arum is adamant the fight won’t take place this year following Joshua’s defeats to the Ukrainian.
He said: ‘I think that [the purse split] is pretty fair, right?
‘I mean, Joshua’s not a champion anymore. But again, let’s not jump – I don’t believe that Fury against Joshua will happen this year because everything that I know about boxing, from Joshua’s standpoint, indicates that it won’t happen.’
