Bare-knuckle boxer removed from fight for entering eating contest on day of bout

A bare-knuckle boxer was removed from his fight after entering an eating contest just hours before he was scheduled to set foot in the ring.

David Morgan was scheduled to take on Zach Johnson at the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship's New York event on Saturday evening.

But in a shock turn of events, BKFC removed Johnson from his scheduled fight as pictures emerged of him stuffing his face.

Morgan has two bare-knuckle bouts under his belt having been stopped by BKFC veteran Travis Thompson in February and fighting at a BYB event in July.

His scheduled opponent Johnson – who has never fought in bare-knuckle – had six professional boxing bouts to his name but had lost all them by stoppage.

And an Instagram user posted a picture of himself eating with Morgan with the bare-knuckle fighter seemingly came out on top.

"Me trying to beat 135/145lbs bare knuckle fighter, Dave Morgan, at an eating contest and failing miserably. This dude ate possibly three times more than me and Knuckle Up Shawn combined," the user wrote.

"I have brought shame and disgrace on my family. Many thanks to Marino's Paw Fudge Co. & Gift Shop in Salamanca NY for hosting Knuckle Up podcast. We will meet again, Morgan!"

Morgan's scheduled opponent Johnson was supposed to make his bare-knuckle debut at the New York event.

He attended the BKFC tryouts in New York to earn himself a shot on the card.

"I had an alright showing in my eyes, but I thought I could do better," Johnson said of his performance at the tryouts.

Johnson had just days to prepare for his fight with Morgan after his original opponent pulled out.

Morgan said he was left "blinded" in one eye after his most recent bare-knuckle fight in July.

"We came in, kind of tied up. I don't know what put me down but I know I fell," he told Bare Knuckle News of the fight.

"My corner said he threw two or three punches, then I went blind in my eye. I tried to fight on but the ref made me stop and he called it, as it was a no-contest."

The BKFC card went on without Morgan's fight. In the main event, Arnold Adams won a unanimous decision against Joey Beltran to become the new heavyweight champion of the promotion.
