Anthony Joshua branded ‘p****’ as opponent promises ‘ruthless’ display in ring

Jermaine Franklin has vowed to destroy Anthony Joshua in their upcoming fight after branding the British fighter a "p***y".

The two will step toe-to-toe at London's O2 Arena on April 1, with Joshua going in search of his first win since 2020 following back-to-back title defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

Franklin, who has 21 wins from 22 professional fights, has promised to shower AJ with abuse during the bout, and suggested he might even bring up the Watford-born heavyweight's mother to try and get in his head.

"I talk trash in the ring but not before the fight," Franklin told The Sun. "In the ring I might call him soft, or a p***y, I start my talk in the ring.

"Outside the ring I might not say much, but inside you might hear me tell him: 'Your momma hits harder than you'."

The American also vowed to produce a "ruthless" display next weekend, insisting that once he steps between the ropes "my switch flicks", referring to his relaxed demeanour away from the ring.

He also accused Joshua of deflection tactics when the former heavyweight champ insisted he was boxing simply to bolster his bank balance.

"That was just a deflection or a mental tactic. To make out like he doesn’t really care about this fight," Franklin said. "He is with a big promoter and he reigned as a champion for about ten years so he doesn’t need money — there’s no way he’s broke.

“He might want people to think he doesn’t care, but I could have said I was only fighting for the money, to catch him off guard. Anyone can bluff like that."
