Amir Khan was "jetlagged" for Kell Brook fight as rematch clause deadline nears
Amir Khan's camp says he was "jetlagged" for his fight against Kell Brook and have suggested it could've impacted his performance on the night.
The 35-year-old had been training in the US for months and only flew back into Manchester a week before the fight – which was stopped in the sixth round following a merciless onslaught by Brook, for which Khan had no answer.
An immediate rematch clause was included in the contract, but if Khan doesn't activate it within the next three weeks then it won't happen.
Boxing promoter Ben Shalom claims Khan and his team are still trying to collect themselves following such a humiliating defeat to a bitter rival.
It's also understood that the Bolton-born fighter feels he may have "underestimated" Brook and regrets not preparing for the fight properly.
"Amir Khan does have a rematch clause in his contract," Shalom told Sun Sport.
"A lot of people are not expecting him to activate that – us included – but at the same time, I’ve heard a lot, around the camp, the jet lag.
"Also perhaps him not taking Kell as seriously as he should have, a few memers coming out of their camp.
"They’ve got at least two or three weeks to activate that rematch clause," he added.

Brook claimed Khan's biggest mistake was giving him half a year to prepare for the biggest fight of his career and get in top shape, while Khan only began training in November.
Shalom refused to rule out a rematch, but insisted that the decision rested with Khan.
"It’s in his hands, it’s not in my hands, if he wants the rematch, he’s got the rematch. His pride is obviously extremely hurt and he feels like he didn’t give a good account of himself.
"Perhaps jet lagged, he only had a ten-week camp while Kell was training for six months."
