WNBA star Liz Cambage rages over ‘offensive’ body shaming

Australian basketballer Liz Cambage will “never” let a man disrespect her.

The WNBA All-Star, who plays for the Las Vegas Aces, took to her Instagram stories to accuse Connecticut Sun head coach Curt Miller of making a lewd comment about her weight.

Cambage said Miller told a referee, “C’mon, she’s 300 pounds (136kg),” while arguing a call in the Aces’ favour in the Sun’s eventual 72-65 win in their WNBA clash. Miller has since apologised, admitting he made an “offensive comment” about Cambage’s weight.

“So to the coach of Connecticut — I’m sorry, little sir man, I do not know your name. But the next time you try to call out a referee trying to get a call being like, ‘C’mon, she’s 300 pounds’, I’m going to need you to get it right baby,” Cambage said before declaring her correct height and weight.

WARNING: Graphic language

“I’m weighing 235 pounds (105kg) and I’m very proud of being a big b***h, big body, big benz, baby,” the 203cm athlete said. “So don’t ever try to disrespect me or another woman in the league.”

Cambage, 29, went on to note that she would’ve reacted during the Sun-Aces game if it weren’t for her having a job to do on the court.

“Anyway to that little man — whole little, tiny, like where is you? — stop trying to project your insecurities baby. Pick up the phone, call the psych, because you projecting some bulls**t right now,” Cambage said.

“And next time you try to disrespect me, remember, I’m 235 (pounds). It might seem like 300 pounds to your little a**. I’m 235, baby.”

Miller issued an apology to Cambage and the Aces organisation on Monday.

“I made an inappropriate and offensive comment in reference to Liz Cambage’s height and weight,” his statement read, according to ESPN. “I regret what I said in the heat of the moment and want to sincerely apologise to Liz and the entire Aces organisation.

“I understand the gravity of my words and have learned from this.”

Cambage, who has yet to acknowledge Miller’s apology, finished the game with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in 21 minutes.

Her latest social media call-out comes less than two weeks after her Twitter exchange with Australian basketball legend Andrew Bogut.

Cambage was also publicly challenged to get back into shape by former Bulleen Boomers coach Tom Maher in 2011 after she arrived back to Australia from the WNBA.

Cambage admitted at the time she was “unfit” after “sitting on the bench and eating American food”.
