Injured Goulding out of NBL season-opener, in race to be fit for Melbourne derby
Melbourne United sharpshooter Chris Goulding will miss the National Basketball League opener against the Sydney Kings and is in a race to be fit for next week’s derby.
Goulding, United’s captain, strained his left hamstring at training on Tuesday and was sent for scans. The results revealed the injury to be minor, but he will miss Sunday’s blockbuster against the Kings in Sydney.
United said Goulding will be a “game-time” decision for Throwdown XIII against South East Melbourne Phoenix on December 12.
Goulding is a key piece of United’s bid for back-to-back championships and will form part of a blue-chip backcourt alongside fellow Tokyo Olympian bronze medallist, Matthew Dellavedova. An NBA championship winner with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dellavedova will make his debut for United on Sunday.
Goulding had been set to enter the new season in fine touch, having poured in 26 points in a pre-season loss to the Phoenix on Sunday.
