Fan bids $1M for four seats to Coach K’s final Duke vs. UNC game
Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski will coach his last regular-season game at home against his school’s storied rival, the University of North Carolina Tarheels, on March 5, 2022. Fans are already trying to snag tickets to the historical event.
How much is the Cameroon faithful willing to spend? Four tickets have already been purchased for the steep price of $1 million. The fan bought the tickets through one of The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s charity events this year. The foundation was created in 1993 by the late NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. Coach K has hosted the event for 14 years. He auctioned off four tickets for the game, and the bidder is anonymous.
COACH K’s LAST SEASON: Krzyzewski reflects before he leads Duke one final time
It is also unknown where in Cameron Indoor Stadium the seats are located at.
Currently, on Stubhub, the ticket prices for the last Duke-UNC game of the season start at $6,500 and go up to $50,500. To put that in perspective, the NCAA Basketball Tournament Finals back in April saw the highest ticket prices in their history as tickets sold up to $15,000, according to Fortune. That looks like nothing compared to Coach K’s final game now.
As the winningest coach in NCAA basketball history (1,170 wins), Coach K’s final games this season will all cost a heavy price. None of the Blue Devils’ home games currently have tickets that go for under $100. The team’s season opener is Friday, Nov. 12 when they play Army at home. As of Oct. 18, the cheapest ticket on Stubhub is $387.
WHO IS JON SCHEYER? What to know about Krzyzewski’s replacement at Duke
Duke students also have to pay to attend games as they do not receive complimentary tickets. This is why the fans camp out in what’s known as “Krzyzewskiville” before games so that they can purchase a ticket. Krzyzewskiville is expected to be even more packed this year as fans want one last glimpse of Coach K on the floor.
