Why Ronda Rousey was the reason Brock Lesnar ended up on SmackDown in WWE draft

WWE Champion Brock Lesnar was drafted to SmackDown as a placeholder until Ronda Rousey returns to action.

Lesnar was sent to team blue during the first round of the WWE Draft on RAW last night ahead of his big fight with UFC legend Cain Velasquez on October 31 at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

According to the publisher and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer, FOX wanted The Beast to join their show at least until Rousey comes back from her hiatus that started in April after WrestleMania 35.

Meltzer said: “I think that it was an executive decision at FOX that they had to get Brock Lesnar because they’re not getting Ronda Rousey, at least for a while.”

WWE Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Triple H confirmed last week that Rousey will be coming back to WWE sooner rather than later.

The UFC Hall of Famer hasn’t been seen since she suffered her first ever loss in professional wrestling during the inaugural all-women’s WrestleMania main event.

The Baddest Woman on the Planet lost the RAW Women’s Championship after being controversially pinned by Becky Lynch in a Winner Takes All Triple Threat Match, which also included then SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.

The Rowdy One wasn’t included in the Draft as she is currently not part of either RAW or SmackDown and has been moved to the alumni page on WWE.com.

There is currently no timetable for a return but it seems like Rousey will soon be reuniting with Vince McMahon’s promotion once more.

Lesnar, on the other hand, might be separated from his advocate Paul Heyman as he is the Executive Director of RAW, which airs on the USA network.

The Beast is not likely to return to SmackDown on a full-time basis but he could make more regular appearances now that the blue brand has moved to FOX.

The Conqueror has revived his feud with UFC rival Velasquez nine years after their fight at UFC 121.

The MMA legend dethroned Lesnar as UFC Heavyweight Champion via TKO in the first round at the Honda Center in 2010.

British boxing superstar Tyson Fury will also be in action at Crown Jewel against Braun Strowman and has hinted that he would be open to facing either mixed martial artist in the near future.
