Paige hints at shock WWE return after being forced to retire due to neck injury

Former WWE Divas champion Paige has hinted at a shock return to wrestling despite being retired for three years with a neck injury.

Paige, real name Saraya-Jade Bevis, prompted much excitement and speculation by cryptically tweeting: "I'm not done yet."

The post has already received more than 2,100 retweets and 23,000 likes, and fan responses were unanimous in willing her to come back.

"What would be amazing, is you returning at the Royal Rumble and winning it," wrote one.

Another said: "Really hope you make a comeback you're literally the most naturally gifted in the ring, and your mic skills are excellent too."

Although many fans wryly suggested the WWE may not be her next destination, with AEW currently riding the crest of a wave after signing CM Punk, and Daniel Bryan expected to follow suit.

Paige has not wrestled since suffering an impact injury to her neck in December 2017, and retired less than four months later.

During her career, the Norwich-born wrestler played a pivotal role in leading the evolution of the women's division in WWE.

In April 2014, aged just 21, she stunned the world when she defeated AJ Lee to become the youngest Divas champion of all time. She also became the first women to hold that title and the NXT Women's Championship at the same time.

In January 2019 the WWE-studios produced film Fighting with my Family , which chartered her rise to the top of the WWE, grossed a worldwide total of $41.5 million.

And Paige has appeared to cement her most Twitter statement on her Twitch channel, saying: "I'm not f*****g done.

"I'm not done yet. This is going to be my comeback story. I'm inspired. I'm so inspired by the people coming back to wrestling and the more I think about it, I'm like, 'Okay, mentally, I'm ready to go.'

"I'm going to start working around, getting in the ring a little bit. Maybe. We'll see. This is not saying I'm making a comeback tomorrow.

"It's a long f*****g road. I still have to get cleared by doctors, I have to get cleared by WWE. It's such a big process, but emotionally, I'm ready."

Paige is still under contract with the WWE until June 2022, but is said to be working hard towards getting it extended.
