Molly McCann mocks Everton after delighting UFC crowd with first-round stoppage

Molly McCann yet again delivered inside the Octagon to secure a stunning first-round stoppage victory over Hannah Goldy at UFC London before hailing the crowd – and even mocking her beloved Everton.

McCann came into the bout as the favourite having put together back-to-back UFC victories after admitting that she was on the brink of leaving the promotion after consecutive defeats to Talia Santos and Lara Procopio.

The 32-year-old's impressive decision victory over Ji Yeon Kim was followed up with a stunning spinning back elbow on the first London card of the year in March.

The Meatball came out firing and in a bid to delight the crowd and did just that with a string of brutal connections that included her now trademark spinning back elbow.

With Herb Dean calling off the bout inside the opening round the Meatball hailed the crowd for their support of female combat sports, which she says is unrivalled.

Commentator Michael Bisping then asked McCann who she would like to fight next – but she insisted that it wasn't up to her – but the big Blue did jokingly say: "I won't let you down – I'm not Everton Football Club!"

As well as forming a close friendship with UFC president Dana White, the Liverpudlian has become a role model for both women in sport and the LGBTQ+ community.

McCann spoke openly to Daily Star Sport ahead of her blockbuster victory at The O2 in March, and was asked about whether MMA and society as a whole is more accepting of being gay in a tribute the sport that has welcomed her with open arms.

She said: "The promotion that I work for has championed equality down the line from females fighting the same amount of minutes and the same amount of rounds as men to females getting paid the same as males.

"They celebrate a man or a woman anyone who's gay. Obviously no male has come out yet in combat sport, but we're championed. Gay pride month they make everyone's name's rainbow and they put so much money to LGBTQ+ charities."
