Joe Rogan reveals his hilarious reaction to Nate Diaz vs Jorge Masvidal fight announcement

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has revealed he was over the moon with the announcement of Nate Diaz’s showdown with Jorge Masvidal.

Last Saturday, the UFC announced Diaz and Masvidal will throw down in the main event of UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden on November 2.

The announcement of Diaz vs Masvidal reverberated across the entire MMA world, with fans of the sport all over the globe delighted with the UFC’s headline act for their fourth trip to MSG.

Amongst those thrilled with the booking was Rogan, who revealed his reaction to the news during the latest Fight Companion installment of his Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, which took place on Saturday night during UFC 242.

“When I saw it on my Instagram feed this morning I threw my arms up like somebody got knocked out. ‘Yes!’” said a fired-up Rogan.

Diaz returned from a three-year lay-off last month in the co-main event of UFC 241 in Anaheim, California, where he defeated Anthony Pettis to pick up his since victory since his UFC 196 win over Conor McGregor.

The build-up to the eighth pay-per-view card of the year, which was headlined by a heavyweight title rematch between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic, was dominated by an overwhelming interest in Diaz’s long-awaited return to the Octagon.

After the card, Rogan was quick to highlight Diaz’s star power, which he believes will make his clash with Masvidal one of the biggest fights of the year.

“It’s worth money,” Rogan said. “I had said that I think Nate Diaz is one of the biggest superstars in the game, right up there with everybody.

“I guess there was some negotiations or something because Dana White refuted it.

“He goes, ‘Well I don’t think Nate Diaz is in our long term plans. Nate fights once every three years.’ I’m like, don’t say that.

“[But] I’m sure [it was part of the negotiation] and to let Nate know that look, we’ve got other plans. There’s other s**t that we’re doing.”

Following a two-fight skid in 2017, MMA veteran Masvidal has bounced back with consecutive knockout victories over Darren Till and Ben Askren, the latter of which saw him claim the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history.

Masvidal has really come into his own in 2019 and Rogan believes he’ll be a dangerous proposition for Diaz.

“That guy’s so good. He’s so good and he’s so clever,” Rogan said. “That’s one of the best things to say about Masvidal.

“The thing is people don’t necessarily associate him with knockout power for some reason.

“But the guy knocked out Yves Edwards with a head kick, he knocked out Darren Till, Donald Cerrone, he knocked out Ben Askren and put him into another dimension with a flying knee, world-record fastest knockout.

“It’s weird that people don’t associate Masvidal with a knockout artist.

“He doesn’t necessarily have the most power, but he’s so good.”
