Rafael Nadal gives non-committal response over possible Cincinnati Masters appearance
Nadal won his fifth Rogers Cup title this evening with a thumping 6-3 6-0 win over Danill Medvedev.
After a lengthy first game of the match, Nadal assumed control of the match and outclassed his opponent, who hadn’t dropped a set on his way to the final.
But Nadal was irresistible and should be full of confidence ahead of the seventh Masters 1000 event of the season in Cincinnati.
In 2018, Nadal won the Rogers Cup and then pulled out of Cincinnati.
Speaking after the match, Nadal was asked by Brad Gilbert what his plans were for next week.
And the Canadian Open champion replied: “I don’t know.
“I have to come back and speak to my team and let’s see.”
Should Nadal decide to play in Cincinnati, his first match is likely to be on Wednesday where he will face the winner of Cristian Garin or Adrian Mannarino.
Victory for Nadal means he is now the leader in the ATP Race To London standings, which decide who finishes at the year-end No 1.
