Felix Auger-Aliassime has responded after Nick Kyrgios asked when the 22-year-old was going to lose again. The world No 8 has won 16 matches in a row – including three titles over three weeks – but Auger-Aliassime brushed off the Aussie’s tweet as he said he was taking it day by day.

Auger-Aliassime is into his second career Masters 1000 final almost three years after the first, as he booked his spot with a 6-1 6-4 win over Frances Tiafoe in Paris-Bercy on Friday. It was the Canadian’s 16th match win in a row, with his last loss now coming more than a month ago on October 3.

The world No 8 is bidding to become the first man in 41 years to win four titles in four weeks, since Ivan Lendl won five in five weeks back in 1981, and is now just two more victories away from achieving the feat. Following his impressive run, Kyrgios tweeted: “When is FAA gonna lose,” adding a laughing-crying emoji.

Auger-Aliassime has now been made aware of the world No 22’s comment following his quarter-final win at the Paris Masters, but brushed it off. “I didn’t see the tweet. Nice from him,” he told reporters when asked about Kyrgios’ comment.

“We’ll see when I lose. I mean, I’m not focused on that. I mean, enjoying, you know, my streak. Just showing up to every match with the same attitude and with the same fighting spirit and just focused. That’s what I’m trying to do. I’m just trying my best, and we’ll see what the outcome is at the end of this week.”

Explaining the secret to his success, Auger-Aliassime admitted it was an age-old answer most tennis players gave in relation to their tournaments. “I know it’s kind of mainstream to say, but, yeah, just taking it day by day.” the eighth seed in Paris said.

“I know you guys have heard this many times in press conferences, but it’s really the best way for me to look at it.” The 22-year-old is now hoping to keep his streak alive as he will face either Holger Rune in Saturday’s semi-final after he won his own quarter-final via retirement, leading 6-3 6-6 when Carlos Alcaraz forfeited the match.

Auger-Aliassime defeated the world No 18 just five days ago in the final of the Swiss Indoors to win his third-successive title. It brought to an end what was a nine-match winning streak for Rune, who had won the title in Stockholm the week before.
