World Cup fans think Uruguay are trolling Ghana after naming Suarez as captain

Football fans are convinced Uruguay are trolling Ghana after naming Luis Suarez as captain for their crucial World Cup clash.

Ghana as a nation are not particularly big fans of former Liverpool and Barcelona forward Suarez after his deliberate handball in their quarter-final clash at the 2010 World Cup denied them a spot in the semi-finals. Suarez handled the ball on the line and was sent off, with Asamoah Gyan missing the resulting penalty.

Uruguay went on to win the match 4-2 on penalties to leave Ghana cursing the hand of Suarez. The 35-year-old has never shown any remorse for his actions, admitting as much earlier this week.

And Ghanaian supporters could be forgiven feeling even more bitter towards the devilish forward after he was named as Uruguay's captain for their World Cup clash on Friday afternoon.

With usual skipper Diego Godin on the bench, Suarez, as one of the elder statesmen of the team, was handed armband duties. But some football fans didn't see things in quite the same way and suggested Uruguay might be trolling their opponents.

Do you think Uruguay are trying to gain a psychological edge over Ghana? Let us know in the comments section.

One person wrote: "Making Suarez captain is excellent trolling." Someone else said: "Suarez starts as captain ya know. Oh boy…" As a third person commented: "Making Suarez captain is *exactly* the sort of thing that I'm here for, outstanding s***housery."

Someone else added: "Luis Suarez to wear the captain's armband against Ghana. Now we cookin'." As a fifth user joked: "Luis Suarez being made Uruguay captain vs Ghana is top level s***housery."

Suarez showed no remorse for his actions 12 years ago during an interview ahead of the game earlier this week. "I don't apologise for it," he said. "I apologise if I injure a player but I took a red card for the handball.

"It wasn't my fault because I didn't miss the penalty. Everyone felt bad [in 2010] but for me I just want to get to the next stage," Suarez added. "Revenge or not, we would go with the same determination and desire to win.

"I am not looking back, I don't want to focus on the past."
