‘Of course I’m worried’: Holland boss Louis van Gaal admits concern over vice captain Georginio Wijnaldum’s lack of PSG playing time… but insists ‘alarm bells are not going off yet’

Holland boss Louis van Gaal has shown concern over the lack of playing time of his star midfielder and vice-captain Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum signed for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer as a free agent, following the conclusion of his Liverpool contract, though has not has a consistent run in the team.

The Dutchman started the campaign under his new manager Mauricio Pochettino, though appears to have fallen down the pecking order due to the mesmerising form of Idrissa Gueye.

Louis van Gaal is worried about the lack of games Georginio Wijnaldum is getting with PSG

Former Everton man Gueye started PSG’s recent crunch Champions League group stage clash against Manchester City ahead of Wijnaldum, and went on to put in a dazzling performance.

Gueye dominated in midfield and scored the first of PSG’s two goals as Pep Guardiola’s men were defeated in the French capital.

Wijnaldum has found match time harder to come by compared to his Liverpool days 

When asked for his thoughts on Wijnaldum’s lack of playing time with his new club, Holland manager Van Gaal answered truthfully.

Speaking during the national team press conference he said: ‘Of course I’m worried. 

‘I already talked to him about that when I arrived. But the alarm bells are not going off yet.’

On Friday Van Gaal’s Holland, with Wijnaldum at the heart of midfield, travel to Latvia for an away fixture in the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Thereafter they host Gibraltar, who visit Rotterdam on Monday, October 11.

The midfielder has made a strong impression when given the opportunity to shine however
