Tyler Adams has admitted the late kickoff times in Qatar for the USMNT will take some adjusting to, with the team set to begin each of their three group stage games at 10pm local time.

Adams has experience with later matches due to his previous Champions League participation with RB Leipzig, but 10pm will represent a new challenge for the USA squad.

‘I think as far as far as playing at 10pm, I haven’t played at 10pm yet,’ Adams said.

Tyler Adams has spoken about the challenges of the USMNT’s late kickoff times in Qatar

‘Champions League games were obviously at 9’oclock, so quite late. But yeah, it’s a big adjustment.

‘I think for a lot of the guys it was good to get over here a little bit earlier, especially the guys coming from the US to adjust to the time change and the time difference and get acclimated to it. Because for me it’s only three hours [time change from England], so I can’t complain too much about that.

Much of Adams’ teammates play for European clubs so they will not have to contend with massive time differences, but some others from MLS got a head start to adjust.

Jesus Ferreira, Shaq Moore, Walker Zimmerman, Aaron Long, Jordan Morris, Kellyn Acosta, Cristian Roldan, DeAndre Yedlin and Sean Johnson arrived in Qatar more than week ago after their seasons in the US.

Like Adams, center back Tim Ream arrived in Qatar from England, though he also acknowledged the difficulty of the late starts.

‘The fact that it’s 10pm is just one of those things that we have to deal with, and adjust our body clocks [to], the Fulham player said.

‘I think the staff and everybody involved with US Soccer, we’ve done a really good job of making sure we that we are on that and we are adjusting accordingly since the minute we landed.’

Tim Ream could play a significant role in Qatar after being recalled to the USMNT squad

While the US and England will square off at 10pm on November 25, that will be the only late start in the group stage for the Three Lions.

Gareth Southgate’s group may also find themselves more comfortable with the late start time, as their Euro 2020 quarterfinal vs. Ukraine was kicked off at 9pm local time.

The USA will begin their tournament vs. Wales on Monday.
