Tottenham ‘very, very close’ to completing deal to re-sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid
Tottenham are “very, very close” to re-signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol. Bale is set to join Spurs on a season-long loan and take up half of his £500,000-a-week wages after being frozen out under Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu. The Welshman has won four Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles since his then world-record move to La Liga from Tottenham in 2013.
Bale scored 55 goals in 203 appearances in his first spell at Tottenham, including 26 in his final campaign at the club.
Solhekol says there are three reasons why Bale is now set to return to north London, with all parties keen to make a deal happen.
“Well at the moment, seven years after leaving, Gareth Bale is coming back to Spurs,” Solhekol said on the Transfer Show.
“Everybody we speak to who’s involved in this deal is telling us that it’s very, very close and it’s all pointing to the fact that he’s going to be a Spurs player again.

“Now, the three reasons why this is happening: the first one, because Gareth Bale wants to play for Spurs again.
“The second one: Real Madrid, his club, want to sell him, need to sell him, they need to get his wages off their books.

“The third reason: Spurs want him back, Daniel Levy wants him back.”
Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has claimed the 31-year-old has held talks with Spurs boss Jose Mourinho regarding a move.

“There’s a long way to go on some issues, but without doubt Gareth is closer to leaving Madrid than at any time in the last seven years,” Barnett told Sky Sports News.
“The deal is complicated, but there’s reason to believe a deal is close and things could move very quickly if discussions continue to go well.
“Gareth has spoken to Jose and explained how Spurs have a special place in his heart.”
Mourinho was asked about Totteham’s interest in Bale at his press conference on Wednesday.
And the Portuguese admitted he wanted to sign the winger when he was Real manager – before Bale ended up joining Los Blancos.
“I tried to sign him for Real Madrid which was not possible to do during my time there,” Mourinho said.
“But the president followed my instinct and my knowledge and the season I left he brought Gareth to the club.
“There is no secret on [my admiration of the player], I think even Gareth knows that.”
