Tottenham star Emerson Royal targeted by robbers in nightclub with thief shot

Tottenham star Emerson Royal was targeted by armed robbers in his native Brazil, according to reports.

The wingback, who has come into his own since Antonio Conte arrived at the club, is reported to have been targeted by armed robbers in the early hours of Friday morning as he was leaving a Brazilian nightclub. A number of local reports have said the star managed to get out unscathed.

O Liberal also reported that Royal was approached by the thief but thankfully an off-duty police officer was at the scene and quickly drew his own gun and opened fire when he realised what was happening. It is believed that at least 20 shots were fired, with one of them hitting the thief in the back before they were taken to a nearby hospital.

Royal is reported to have come out of the incident without injury and travelled to the police station with his father soon after to file an official report. Royal's dad, Emerson Zulu, said that the footballer was taking a photo with the off duty police officer when the thief pounced on him.

He also revealed that his son's chain and watch were stolen but later recovered following the shoutout outside the nightclub. As reported by Record, Zulu said: "After leaving an event, the security guard who recognised him, asked to take pictures with him and offered to take him to the car.
