Tottenham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will have no say on the future of Harry Kane, according to reports. Nuno was appointed the permanent successor to Jose Mourinho at Tottenham and held his first press conference as boss last Friday. The Portuguese was adamant Kane would be staying beyond this summer transfer window.

Kane told Spurs earlier this summer he wanted to leave, with Manchester City since having made a bid of £100million for the England captain.

But Nuno insisted the club are not willing to let their talismanic striker leave.

Nuno said: “I have no doubts in my mind. What I wish is for Harry to recover well and have a good rest.

“When he arrives he will feel that he has to commit himself to become better. We are ambitious, we want to do well and we count on Harry to do that.

“Harry is our player, period. There is no need to talk about anything else. Now is the time for him to rest. When he returns we can have a good conversation. I am looking forward to him joining the group.”

However, ESPN claims Nuno will be the ‘last person to know’ if Kane was to leave Spurs.

Owner Joe Lewis and chairman Daniel Levy will be making the decisions on Kane, not Nuno.

Reports have claimed Kane will not return to Spurs training in an attempt to force through an exit.

But ESPN says the 27-year-old is unlikely to go down that path.

Meanwhile, Nuno admits the Tottenham squad needs refreshing with new signings and says he is in discussions with the club’s hierarchy over the type of player to bring in.

“It has been great since we arrived,” the former Wolves boss said.

“It’s hard work, it’s all about pre-season and trying to commit everyone to work hard.

“The attitude commitment of the boys has been great, and I am delighted to be here.

“We’ve been talking. Me, Fabio (Paratici) and Steve (Hitchen). We’re aware there’s a lot of work to be done. It’s hard work to improve the quality we have. We need to find the right players.

“On a daily basis we talk. Fabio and Steve, they do their job in the market. I do mine on the training ground. To improve our squad is not easy.”
