Son Heung-min to undergo surgery as Spurs fans fear he will miss World Cup

    There are World Cup fears for Son Heung-min, who will have to undergo surgery for injuries sustained against Marseille on Tuesday evening.

    Spurs confirmed Son will have to surgery with a statement on Wednesday, it read: "We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye.

    "The South Korea international suffered the injury during the first half of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League victory at Olympique Marseille. Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course."

    And football fans are now concerned the South Korean could miss the World Cup as a result of the injury.

    One fan tweeted: "A horrible postscript to the Sporting VAR debacle. Son wouldn’t have been playing yesterday but for that, now he may miss captaining his country at a World Cup."

    "I'd be devastated if Son can't make the World Cup! Hopefully he undergoes surgery and wears a mask in the tournament," a second added.
