Gunners fans compared boss Mikel Arteta to Arsene Wenger over their transfer successes
The Portugal Under-21 international enjoyed a breakthrough year last season, amassing six goals and 14 assists in 27 league appearances for Porto to help the club claim a 30th league title.
His credentials have left Gunners fans salivating and hailing boss Mikel Arteta’s first signing of the summer window, with one supporter even likening the transfer to those made by the club’s managerial legend Arsene Wenger.
‘It’s typical Wenger transfer policy in (sic) Arsenal.. It’s silently done,’ wrote one Twitter user, while another praised Arteta for ‘signing one of Portugal’s most exciting prospects… under the radar’.
Wenger’s biggest transfer coup was arguably in luring Sol Campbell from fierce rivals Tottenham on a shock free transfer in 2001.

Vieira was hailed as an ‘incredible signing’ by one Arsenal fan, who added that ‘out of the blue transfers just hit different’, with another going as far as to compare Vieira to Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.
‘Hyped to be the next big thing in Portugal. Fair play to Arsenal for keeping this one under the radar and getting it done,’ wrote GoonerViews.
Vieira’s arrival at the Emirates is just the start of Arsenal’s transfer business, with Arteta reportedly still keen on signing Youri Tielemans from Leicester.
