Real Madrid and Liverpool go head-to-head in a mouthwatering Champions League quarter-final clash TONIGHT: Everything you need to know ahead of kick-off with Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp under pressure to win

  • Liverpool travel to Real Madrid for their Champions League quarter-final first leg
  • Jurgen Klopp’s side are coming off a confidence-boosting 3-0 win over Arsenal
  • It was Madrid who got the better of Liverpool in an enthralling final back in 2018
  • The match will be played at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Madrid’s training ground

Liverpool travel to Real Madrid for the first leg of their mouthwatering Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled domestically this season, but the Champions League has been another story for the Reds, who topped their group before brushing aside the challenge of RB Leipzig in the last-16.

Madrid are certainly not the same side who won the Champions League in three successive seasons between 2015-2018, a hat-trick of victories that ended with a 3-1 win over tonight’s opponents Liverpool.

However, they are still involved in an intriguing battle for the La Liga title, currently sat in third place, just three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool will enter the tie with confidence high, with Fabinho now reinstalled into the midfield and with the Premier League champions coming off an impressive 3-0 away win against an admittedly woeful Arsenal.

With the highly unpredictable spectacle just a matter of hours away, Sportsmail takes you through the all-important information.

Liverpool travel to Real Madrid for their Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday, April 6.

The all-important match will kick-off at 8pm BST at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Madrid’s 6,000-seat training ground, with the Santiago Bernabeu currently being renovated.

Due to the prevalent coroanvirus restrictions we’ve all become so accustomed to, the match will, of course, be played behind closed doors.

Liverpool then have a home tie against Aston Villa in the Premier League to follow, with the return leg at Anfield taking place next Wednesday.

How to watch Real Madrid vs Liverpool

The match will be broadcast live on BT Sport 2, with Premier League rivals Manchester City – who play Borussia Dortmund at the same time – being shown on BT Sport 3.

Subscribers can also watch both games on both the BT website and app.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool: Team news

Captain Sergio Ramos will miss both legs after suffering a calf injury on international duty

Diogo Jota was back among the goals as Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 away win at Arsenal

Neither side will come into the match even close to full strength, with injuries in abundance spread across the camps.

Liverpool have been rather decimated throughout the season, with long-term absentees Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez still sidelined and some way off a return, while both Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson remain out.

They have received a major boost by the return of Diogo Jota, however, who scored twice in the 3-0 win over Arsenal.

Madrid, on the other hand, will have 22-year-old midfielder Federico Valverde available once again, after the Uruguayan recovered from a hamstring injury.

However, captain Sergio Ramos suffered a calf injury during the international break and will likely miss both legs.

Additionally, Los Blancos have neither Dani Carvajal and Eden Hazard available on Tuesday night.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool: The odds

Gareth Bale scored a stunning overhead kick when the pair last met in the Champions League

The Welshman’s goal proved pivotal as Madrid claimed a 13th Champions League triumph

While the tie between two historic European giants is near impossible to call, it’s Liverpool who come into the fixture as the marginal favourites among the bookies.

They have played six times throughout history, with both clubs claiming three draws apiece. However, it was Madrid who ran out winners when the pair last met in a memorable 3-1 Champions League victory back in 2018.

Regardless, Liverpool come in as favourites for this one, with odds of 13/8 to win the first leg, while Madrid are the slight underdogs at 7/4. Meanwhile, a draw is at 5/2.
