Paul Pogba has made his mind up as scathing Man Utd interview only ends one way

Paul Pogba has delivered some damaging performances since rejoining Manchester United for a club-record deal back in 2016.

But the one he produced this week while not even in Manchester could prove to be the most destructive of the lot ahead of his impending departure from Old Trafford. In a scathing if ironic attack on the fallen giants, Pogba has accused his club of being clueless when it comes to getting the best out of him.

He might have a point considering Pogba has been nothing more significant than a French enigma since his much-heralded return to Manchester from Juventus five seasons ago. Pogba's comeback was supposed to signal the start of United's domestic resurgence under then-boss Jose Mourinho.

Instead, United have fallen further behind the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, while Pogba has looked like a lost soul who regretted going back to his childhood club. Pogba has not helped himself at times, with more carefree and undisciplined performances than frustrated supporters will care to remember.

There have been the odd flashes of genius and two trophies back in 2017, when Mourinho led United to Europa League and League Cup triumphs. But that was as good as it got – and Pogba now finds himself in the desperate situation of playing for an interim manager running a team he cannot wait to turn his back on.

In a withering attack on Ralf Rangnick, Pogba claims things are so bad that the German boss doesn't even know what his best position is. While on international duty, Pogba had an interview with Le Figaro that resembled a resignation letter to United: "It's simple with France. I play and I play in my position, I know my role and I feel the confidence of the coach and the players.

"It's normal to feel a difference at Manchester United, because it's hard to be consistent when you often have a change to your position, or the team system, or your partners. I get along very well with (France boss Didier Deschamps). He gave me a role that I know, but at Manchester United do I really have a role? I ask the question, but I don't have an answer."

Pogba describes his time with France as like with being with a 'family' – and revealed how things were once so bad under Mourinho that he suffered bouts of depression. The 29-year-old had an infamous training ground bust-up with the Portuguese, which proved the beginning of the end for the self-styled "Special One".

The fact Pogba is still at United as well will surprise some people, but news of how desperately unhappy he's been will be of no shock to most. When asked if he had suffered mental health issues under Mourinho, Pogba added: "Completely, and several times in my career.

"Personally, it started when I was with José Mourinho in Manchester (2016-2017). You ask yourself questions, you wonder if you are at fault, because you have never experienced these moments in your life. Because you make money, you always have to be happy?

"It's not like that, life. But, in football, it does not pass, we are however not superheroes, but only human beings."

Most people who follow United will agree with Pogba on one thing – he hasn't even been close to being a 'superhero'.
