Both Newcastle and Huddersfield picked up their first wins of the season this weekend, but there is still one team in Europe’s top five leagues without a win.
Over in Serie A, Chievo Verona still haven’t managed a victory, and to make matters worse, they’re bottom of the table with -1 point.
After picking up a points deduction at the start of the season, they’ve secured just two draws from their 11 games, losing the other nine.
Chievo players look dejected after yet another loss in Serie A to Sassuolo, as they sit on -1 point
The club was fined and deducted points in September, and haven’t won a game this season
Chievo were fined $200,000 and given a three point deduction in Serie A in September after being found guilty of false accounting. The club’s president was also banned for three months.
The club was found to be deliberately inflating the numbers regarding transfer deals with Cesena, and the FIGC’s prosecutor originally requested that Chievo be deducted 15 points.
Chievo have scored just eight goals in the league so far, the lowest of any team, and they’ve conceded 28, the most of any team.
Atalanta put five past them last month, and they shipped six to Fiorentina in August. Arguably their best performance of the season came in a 3-2 defeat against Juventus in the first game of the season, who have now pulled away to a monumental lead at the top of the table.
Newcastle and Huddersfield both picked up their first wins of the season at the weekend
Relegation seems on the cards for the embattled club, who are a full seven points behind relegation rivals Empoli and Frosinone, who both have one with to their name.
They have a match against Bologna coming up, before games against high-flying Napoli and Lazio which they seem unlikely to get anything out of.
So, although things are looking fire for Newcastle, Huddersfield, Southampton, Cardiff, and Fulham, who all have just one win so far, things could be a lot worse.
