Mikel Arteta transfer call questioned after Arsenal beat Rapid Wien in Europa League

Arsenal avoided a major scared as they came from behind to get their Europa League campaign up and running with a victory over Rapid Wien. However, goalkeeper Bernd Leno came under major fire for an error just after half-time.

Leno attempted to play the ball out from the box when he was caught in possession, allowing Taxiarchis Fountas to slot home.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came off the bench to score the winner after David Luiz had headed the Gunners level.

However, former Gunners defender Martin Keown feels Arteta may have made a mistake in letting shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez join Aston Villa for £20million.

“Having let Martinez go, who was magnificent, so to see Leno making these types of mistakes, you wonder whether it was the right call,” he told BT Sport.

“It was a difficult night for Leno. The team had their backs to the wall but showed very good character to get back into it. A couple of changes were made.

“I thought when they changed it actually and went back to a five, the pictures then became more familiar to the players and they found a way to win this match.”
