Man Utd star Edinson Cavani sends message to Chelsea ace Thiago Silva ahead of reunion

Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is gunning for Chelsea defender Thiago Silva in Saturday’s Premier League showdown. Cavani could make his debut for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side against Chelsea, and is hoping to come up against his former Paris-Saint Germain team-mate.

Cavani and Thiago played together for sevens together at PSG, sharing six Ligue 1 title triumphs – although the latter has an extra league crown in his trophy haul as he joined the French giants a year earlier than his former team-mate.

They could come face to face at Old Trafford on Saturday, with centre-half Thiago having joined Chelsea over the summer, while Cavani signed for United on the final day of the transfer window.

Both teams will be looking to kick on this weekend after suffering slow starts to the season.

United have lost two Premier League games already this season – a 6-1 thrashing by Tottenham earlier this month, and a 3-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace in their opening game.

However, Solskjaer’s side have picked up since the international break with wins over PSG and Newcastle.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are coming off the back of home draws against Sevilla and Southampton.

The west London side’s defending has been criticised after they threw away leads in 3-3 draws against both the Saints and West Brom.

But Cavani is expecting nothing less then a stern examination if he comes up against veteran Bazilian centre-back Thiago.

“It will be great to be able to find him on the pitch,” the striker told EN24 News, cited by Football London.

“Thiago is very professional, because he works so hard in training and in the pre-match warm-ups. Well, it won’t be easy!

“It will be complicated because he is a very good central defender and an excellent footballer.

“But it will still be a great experience.”

Axel Tuanzebe could retain his place in the Red Devils defence on Saturday after the 22-year-old centre-back impressed during the Champions League victory over Cavani’s former club PSG on Tuesday night.
