Manchester United fans have made their feelings clear about Gareth Southgate’s decision to leave Aaron Wan-Bissaka out of his preliminary England squad for Euro 2020. Southgate named four right-backs in his 33-man squad, which will be trimmed to 26 on June 1. However, Wan-Bissaka was not one of them.

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold earned a spot despite reports suggesting he would miss out.

Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Chelsea’s Reece James were the other selections by Southgate.

Wan-Bissaka is yet to win a senior cap for England, so his non-inclusion was not a surprise for many.

But lots of United fans took to social media to explain their disappointment at the decision.

Some supporters felt Wan-Bissaka deserved a spot over Alexander-Arnold after the pair’s comparative seasons.

“Overall TAA is the better RB, but if we go off form over the season AWB deserve that spot before Trent [sic],” wrote one United fan.

“AWB clear of TAA” and “AWB > TAA” tweeted two others.

One fan feels Southgate has his “favourites” and that is why Wan-Bissaka missed out.

They wrote: “There’s actually no point in Wan Bissaka trying to force his way into that England squad.

“Southgate has favourites and it’s evident.

“How Trent can make that squad ahead of AWB, is a mystery to me.”

Others were more blunt in their criticism, with one tweeting: “How Wan Bissaka who’s been brilliant all season doesn’t get in but Trent who’s been s**t all season does. Absolutely baffling.”

Some feel Wan-Bissaka is the best defender out of the five right-backs in question.

“He’s the best defensive right back England have. Should have been given a chance,” wrote one fan.

“Best right back in the world, he not deserved [sic] to play with s**t manager like Southgate,” put another.

It’s not just Alexander-Arnold who some fans think is lucky to be picked ahead of Wan-Bissaka, with Chelsea star James also facing criticism.

One tweeted: “More goal contribution than Reece James while being the best defensive fullback.

“And I think he’s a better RCB than [Conor] Coady or Ben godfrey.”

“He’s been better than taa reece james [sic],” said another.

England will begin their Euro 2020 campaign against Croatia on June 13.

They then face Scotland on June 18 and Czech Republic on June 22 to finish their group stage matches.
