Man Utd could be without 11 players for opening fixture vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has concerns over as many as ELEVEN players, going into the Premier League opener with Crystal Palace this weekend.

United were given an additional week to prepare for the new season, after their Europa League exploits saw last campaign run into August.

While many of their top-flight rivals were in competitive action over the weekend, Solskjaer was able to arrange one final tune-up match vs Aston Villa.

But despite that, United have a lengthy list of players who may be unavailable for Saturday’s clash.

The MEN report that Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Eric Bailly only returned to full training on Monday, while Bruno Fernandes started only days before.

Phil Jones is fit, but is unlikely to be selected, with the chance of him completing an Old Trafford exit before the end of the window. Sergio Romero is in the same boat, but he has yet to return to training as he seeks a move.

Meanwhile, Mason Greenwood is still training in isolation after returning to Carrington last week. The United striker was sent home from England duty after breaching Covid-19 guidelines in Iceland last week. It is understood that Greenwood has taken a test to confirm whether he is still a risk to other teammates, with Solskjaer set for talks with the youngster.

Axel Tuanzebe is definitely out for the visit of Palace as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury.

Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial are set to be assessed by United staff after the two performed on international duty for Sweden and France respectively.

Donny van de Beek is in contention for his first competitive start, after impressing in the 1-0 defeat at Villa Park last weekend.

Harry Maguire, who will keep hold of the captain’s armband, is set to start, while Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw both played against Villa on Saturday.
