Man City fans snap crossbar in raucous pitch invasion after Premier League win

Manchester City fans snapped their own crossbar after winning the Premier League title against Aston Villa.

City were able to pull off a remarkable comeback against Villa to spark some of the wildest scenes seen at a Premier League match. The champions made it extremely tough for themselves, having gone two goals down after 70 minutes of play.

But with Liverpool beating Wolves, they needed a miraculous comeback to win their second consecutive title – which they were able to achieve. And the surreal scenes resulted in a mass pitch invasion which even led to the City crossbar being snapped in half.

Ilkay Gundogan sparked a comeback in the 76th minute, before Rodri added another two minutes later. Gundogan was the hero again after tapping in a Kevin De Bruyne low cross for the emphatic winner in the 81st.

City held on nervously for the remainder of the match until the final whistle blew and fans flooded the pitch to show their joy. The City faithful immediately took to both ends of the field, where they climbed onto a goal and sat on the crossbar.

Eventually, enough of the flag-bearing fans were seated on the woodwork to cause it to snap in half, leading them to go tumbling down. The supporters then hilariously posed for photos while they sat inside the broken goal.

City’s stars were immediately escorted off the field by stewards as they were rushed by adoring fans. The pitch invasion became the latest in a recent trend of fans taking to the field towards the end of this season.
