Manchester City and Scotland legend Willie Donachie has been mugged for his personalised gift Rolex while in Ibiza.

The 70-year-old Scotsman enjoyed a 22-year career as a left-back for the likes of Man City and Burnley before retiring at Oldham Athletic in 1990. And his son Dan has now explained that the current Montserrat head coach has been stripped of a watch given to him by the club for guiding them to promotion prior to hanging up his boots.

Dan took to Twitter on Sunday (June 26) evening to plead to fans and those in Ibiza for help in order to have the watch returned.

"This was his last remaining sentimental item. It’s a Rolex inscribed with : 'Thanks Willie for a memorable season' Help if you can."

Willie's son explained how we was unharmed and "fine" after the mugging, but was still in search of the classic Rolex. Messages of support immediately flooded in for the former defenderand ex-Newcastle reserve team manager, with fans offering to help by getting the word out across various platforms.

One fan responded to the news with: "What a player your dad was, hope he's OK."

Another wrote: "So sorry to hear that Dan. Always loved your Dad (primarily at City, of course), and hope he's OK – although I can't help directly."

A third replied: "Awful news that, Dan. Hope your dad is okay & the power of social media helps him get it back."
