Liverpool tipped to seal shock January loan deal for David Alaba because of Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool have been tipped to launch a surprise bid to take David Alaba on loan during the January transfer window due to Jurgen Klopp’s familiarity with the Bundesliga from his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Liverpool are expected to go after a new centre-back this January.
Potential season-ending injuries to Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk have left the Reds short of options at the back.
Van Dijk is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and isn’t expected to return before the end of the season.
Gomez, who was regarded as Liverpool’s best option aside from Van Dijk, went down with a knee injury during England training earlier this week.

He was forced to undergo surgery on a tendon on his knee, and will miss a large portion of the rest of the season.
As a result, Klopp is left with very few capable centre-backs ready to fill in.
Youngster Rhys Williams, Nathaniel Phillips, Joel Matip and Sepp van den Berg are his only remaining options.
They have been tipped to go into the January transfer window and bring in a replacement, with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and Schalke’s Ozan Kabak both believed to be options.

Bayern Munich star Alaba has also been linked, as the Austrian defender is out of contract at the end of the season.
The German champions have reportedly decided they won’t sell him until next summer, despite the fact they’ll lose him for free.
But former Leeds player Noel Whelan believes Klopp could work his magic and sign Alaba on loan due to his experience in Germany.
Klopp spent 14 years as a manager in the Bundesliga – first with Mainz and then with Borussia Dortmund – and Whelan thinks he’ll be able to utilise his contacts in Germany and bring in Alaba on loan to plug the gap at the back.
He told Football Insider: “The one good thing about him is that Jurgen Klopp knows him well from his time in Germany, he’ll know a lot about the players that play in Germany.
“They need somebody right now that’s going to fill a void, it might not be a permanent signing.
“It might be a loan signing, which would work for David Alaba and it would for Jurgen Klopp, just for the short term.
“They definitely need to go into the market and he will bring some experience as well to the side that which Liverpool really needed in their defence.”
