Liverpool could have the ideal option already at the club as they look for a rival to Roberto Firmino. Divock Origi looks set to leave in the transfer window and Jurgen Klopp is in need of back-up in his frontline.

Liverpool have one player on their books who could rival Firmino for a spot next season.

It comes as speculation over Origi’s future continues to swirl with the Belgian likely to leave in the summer window.

The former Lille star has been largely marginalised this year despite a promise from Jurgen Klopp to increase his game-time.

In fact, the 26-year-old has played in just nine Premier League matches this season compared to last campaign where he played in 28.

A host of other clubs in the top-tier are interested in his services, including Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Southampton.

Diogo Jota’s arrival in the summer from Wolves relegated the Belgium international further down the pecking order.

But despite his lack of game-time, Klopp would not want to see Origi leave in the transfer window.

That is because, though he may not be a key player, the forward provides back-up for Firmino should the Brazilian get injured and also has scored important goals during his time at Anfield.

Origi has netted against Everton, Newcastle and Barcelona as Liverpool landed Premier League and Champions League titles – though the most critical came in the 2019 final when he scored vs Tottenham.

But the Reds have an ideal replacement already in mind with Taiwo Awoniyi impressing while on loan at Union Berlin.

The Nigerian was granted a UK work permit this summer and would be allowed to play in the Premier League next season.

Despite signing back in 2015, Awoniyi has yet to play a single minute for Liverpool – spending every year out on loan.

The Anfield outfit value the 23-year-old at £8m after rejecting a £5m bid from Anderlecht last summer, report the Liverpool Echo.

But the Nigerian Under-23 international could be an option for Klopp going into the new campaign and deserves a chance to impress in pre-season.

He could also provide a different playing style to Firmino that could prove beneficial if Plan A is not working.
