Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe at loggerheads over future of Neymar at PSG

Paris Saint-Germain superstars Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are said to 'disagree' over the future of team-mate Neymar.

The former Barcelona star has been linked with a summer exit, having seen his influence at the Ligue 1 champions dwindle over recent years. Neymar completed a world-record switch to the French capital in 2017, but has been usurped as the club's leading star by the emergence of Mbappe.

PSG club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi gave a less than convincing response when asked about the forward's future at the club following an underwhelming campaign. Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed despite regaining the French title following a disappointing Champions League exit to eventual winners Real Madrid.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for Neymar, with reports even suggesting intermediaries have contacted the Blues over a potential blockbuster deal. Thomas Tuchel previously worked with Neymar in Paris, and is looking to reshape his attack following the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

Now, Mundo Deportivo claim Mbappe and Messi are in 'conflict' over their different views as to whether Neymar should remain at the club. The French forward is said to have been given a say in the club's transfer policy after snubbing Real Madrid and signing a new lucrative deal.

Mbappe is said to prefer for Neymar to be left out of the squad due to certain instances of 'indiscipline'. However, Messi does not share the same view having forged a ruthless partnership alongside the attacker and Luis Suarez during their time together at Barcelona.

The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner is said to be championing the cause of his former Catalan team-mate, suggesting he still has a lot to offer both on and off the pitch. Neymar remains under contract until 2027, and there are few clubs who could match the staggering financial package he currently enjoys in Paris.

Previous reports indicated PSG were open to a sale this summer as part of a change in approach under the new head coach Christoph Galtier. The former Nice boss was finally appointed on Tuesday, and stressed his desire to keep Neymar at the club ahead of the new season.

Galtier told French outlet RMC Sport : "Which coach would not like to have a player like him in his team? I have a very precise idea of what I will expect from Neymar. I will meet him, listen, but I want him to stay with us."
