Keys and Gray chuckle at female Liverpool fans in "awkward" unearthed clip

Richard Keys and Andy Gray have been heard chuckling over female Liverpool fans in an unearthed clip – dividing opinion.

In the footage from 1996, the pair, who were sacked by Sky Sports in 2011 for sexist comments they made off-air, were working for the company ahead of a match at Anfield. Discussing the atmosphere prior to kick-off, Keys said: "I say Andy, it does look well Anfield, doesn't it?"

Gray replied: "Yeah, wish we were there." The camera then cut to two female supporters among the home crowd, prompting Gray to continue: "Oh, it looks even better now."

"I didn't want to say anything," added Keys as the pair burst out into a prolonged laughter. The clip proved divisive on social media as fans reacted. It comes after Keys found himself embroiled in a Twitter spat with ex-Aston Villa star Gabriel Agbonlahor, who told him he had been "fired for sexism".

One wrote: "That was awkward. Even back then." Another commented: "Bad uncles the pair of em." And a third posted: "Those laughs."

Some felt differently, though. One argued: "Proper snowflakes about these days." A second defender of the broadcasters joked: "When banter was still allowed…"

Another added: "There was a time once … long ago where people were allowed to have a laugh without the PC-Correct/Populist-Brigade waking up each morning with the sole intention of being offended."

Keys and Gray were given the boot by Sky after microphones they thought were turned off picked up their comments about female official Sian Massey. Keys was later seen in leaked footage asking Jamie Redknapp if he "smashed it", a crass reference to sex, while Gray was seen in leaked footage asking a female colleague to help tuck in a microphone close to his trousers.
