In recent weeks, it has been said that the Gunners were looking to enter talks with the forward over his future at the Emirates, with his current deal set to expire in 2024.

So far in 2022/23, he has scored five and assisted two in 12 league games to help fire the Gunners to the top of the table.

It has been reported that Martinelli’s terrific form this campaign has been attracting interest from the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid, and should he snub a new contract offer Arsenal may be forced to sell the 21-year-old.

Thankfully for Mikel Arteta and co. that does not look to be the case, as Martinelli appears very eager to commit himself to the club.

‘I want to stay, they just need to give me a pen,’ the Brazil international told reporters in Arsenal’s pre-match press conference ahead of their Europa League clash with FC Zurich on Thursday.

‘I am very happy at Arsenal. I said it many times, I love to be here. I love the city, I love everything about Arsenal so I want to stay.

‘Yeah, just need to get a pen.’

Signed from Ituano in 2019, Martinelli has developed into one of Arsenal’s star players and this season has formed part of one of the Premier League’s best forward lines alongside Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka.

He hopes his performances can earn him a place in Brazil’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, but he faces stiff competition with his country blessed with many world-class forwards – not least his Arsenal teammate Jesus.

He added: We talk a lot about it. All of us want to be there on the list and want to play the World Cup.

‘What we can do is work hard here at Arsenal and try hard to be there in the list.’
