Jurgen Klopp has first moan of the season with complaint about Community Shield

Jurgen Klopp has produced his first moan of the season after he complained about the scheduling of the Community Shield.

Liverpool will take on Premier League champions Manchester City in the season's traditional curtain raise on Saturday evening having earned their involvement by winning the FA Cup back in May. However, the German manager is less than impressed that his side have to play a competitive fixture a week before the league season gets underway.

Speaking to the press ahead of this weekend's match, he explained, via the Daily Mail: “I like the competition but I think it would be possible to find another date.

"We had a longer season than other teams and now we have a shorter pre-season. It makes not too much sense. Maybe somebody can think about this.

"But we have to find a way and that’s what we are working on. In two days the season starts again and we are really looking forward to it. It is important as we have played this game a couple of times and it would be nice to win it. It’s the last one that we still have to win.”

The match is set to take place at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, having been moved from Wembley Stadium to avoid a clash with Sunday's Women's Euro final.

Liverpool are also set to play their fifth and final pre-season friendly the following day as they welcome Strasbourg to Anfield on Sunday.

That is before they begin the new Premier League season next weekend with a trip to newly promoted Fulham on August 6. In addition to that match, the Reds are also due to play a secret friendly the day after their match against the Cottagers.

Klopp regularly moaned about the fixture schedule last season as Liverpool's runs to the finals of both domestic cups and the Champions League saw them play in the maximum number of fixtures available.

Ultimately, they lifted both the FA Cup and League Cup but were denied a quadruple after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid after City had pipped them to the league title by a single point.
