Julian Brandt ‘tempted’ by Arsenal transfer as Arteta begins January business

Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt is reportedly tempted by a move to Arsenal this month, with the Gunners keen to sign a creative player.

Mikel Arteta was regularly linked with a move for Lyon ace Houssem Aouar in the summer though attentions have been turned away from the Frenchman now.

Gunners chief Edu has admitted Arsenal need a creative player in the ranks, despite Mesut Ozil being cast aside.

And Bild report that the Premier League giants are interested in a deal for 24-year-old Brandt with the January transfer window set to open on Saturday.

Arsenal academy boss Per Mertesacker and Brandt share the same agents with the midfielder having fallen down the Dortmund pecking order.

Bild add that the German is tempted by a move to the Emirates though it’s believed Dortmund are not interested in a January move.

Arsenal may still test that resolve given their issues this season with the north London team struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Edu recently admitted: “It’s quite clear what we need. We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now.’

Though Lucien Favre, who recently left Dortmund, backed Brandt to redsicover his form at the Bundesliga giants.

“People say that he’s not in the best form lately and has had some bad ball losses but I don’t think he’s played that badly,’ he said shortly before his exit.

“Tactically speaking, he runs very well in behind the opponent’s lines. That’s why he plays as a striker sometimes.

“He is quite fast and can run deep. We need that and he can do it very, very well.”
