Jordan Pickford’s "s***housing" time wasting attempt backfires

Jordan Pickford’s time-wasting antics backfired as Liverpool beat Everton 2-0.

The England number one, 28, was seen holding the ball for longer than needed at Anfield in a bid to frustrate the title challengers as early as first half stoppage time. But the move failed as the Reds beat their Merseyside rivals, who are looking down the barrel at Premier League relegation .

After a heated first-half, the home side broke the deadlock in the second period via Andy Robertson on 67 minutes. Then club cult hero Divock Origi found the side’s second goal of the afternoon late on to wrap up three points for Liverpool.

Pickford had received the brunt of criticism from the home fans for a lot of the game. And this wasn’t helped by his antics on the pitch, with one fan commenting:  "Everton are s***housing Liverpool. Fun to see"

But Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson had the last laugh as he mimicked Pickford at the other end of the pitch, falling to the floor with the ball in his arms in the dying embers of the game.

Fans then tweeted their joy at seeing the 'keeper mocking Pickford as one rejoiced: “Alisson copying Jordan Pickford and falling to his knees is the greatest thing we've ever seen.”

Another said: “I have never seen Ali ever waste time like that but we all loved it I am sure pickford would have to.” A third wrote: “I must admit that was funny as hell.”

With Burnley beating Wolves, relegation is looking like a stark reality for Everton. Under Frank Lampard, the club have failed to rejuvenate and so are in a race to keep themselves out of the drop zone with just six games of the Premier League season to go.

The loss sees them remain on 29 points, with the Clarets – who have won their last two games – on two points ahead but with a game in hand.
