Insigne adamant he did NOT sign with Raiola to leave Napoli
‘I didn’t choose Mino Raiola for a move away’: Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne adamant he did NOT sign with Paul Pogba’s agent to secure a new club
- Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne changed representation to join forces with Mino Raiola
- The 28-year-old’s decision sparked fear in fans that he is looking to move away
- But Insigne has looked to qualify his decision and says he is happy now in Naples
Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne has dismissed suggestions he signed with football agent Mino Raiola this summer in a bid to force a move away from the Stadio San Paolo.
The 28-year-old is one of the shining lights in Carlo Ancelotti’s team but with Raiola clients – including Paul Pogba, Matthijs de Ligt and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – often agitating for moves away, Napoli fans have become concerned they could lose Insigne after this season.
But speaking to Il Mattino ahead of taking on Liverpool in the Champions League, Insigne insists that is not the case at all in terms of why he changed representation.
Lorenzo Insigne has looked to dismiss talk that he wants to leave Napoli after changing agent
Super-agent Mino Raiola has a host of high-profile players including Man United’s Paul Pogba
‘What matters is that I’m calm,’ he said.
‘I’ve always wanted to stay and I’ve never thought about leaving Naples. I didn’t choose [Mino] Raiola for a move away. I’ll always give my best for this shirt.’
Napoli, fresh from their 2-0 win over Serie A strugglers Sampdoria, are preparing to welcome Jurgen Klopp’s European champions to Naples on Tuesday. The two sides met in the group stage last season where a goal on the stroke of full-time by Insigne was enough for Napoli to edge out Klopp’s free-flowing side 1-0.
Insigne is in fine form but wants to see the club carry it into this year’s Champions League
In a group that contains Genk and RB Salzburg, both Napoli and Liverpool will be expected to progress. But for Insigne, it is important to make a strong start to Group E, starting against the Reds.
‘The right signings have been made, we’re a great bunch and we deserve to win something,’ he added.
‘We have to go as far as possible in the Champions League. I hope to reach the final and win it.’
