Haaland's success is down to 'dedication for the game', says Walker

Erling Haaland’s success is down to his ‘dedication for the game and NOT his diet’, according to Man City team-mate Kyle Walker… who insists the Norwegian’s ‘dad probably has a big influence on and off the field’

  • Walker has lifted the lid on his theories behind Haaland’s sparkling season
  • The Norwegian forward has lit up the Premier League since joining Man City
  • Walker insists that it’s due to the 22-year-old’s ‘dedication for the game’
  • He also suggested that ‘his dad’ – Alfie Haaland – ‘probably has a big influence’

Erling Haaland’s unrivalled success is down to his ‘dedication’ for the sport, according to his Man City team-mate Kyle Walker.

The Norwegian forward has been nothing short of spectacular this season and has already scored 22 goals in 16 appearances since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

With many speculating what makes the 22-year-old so great, his team-mate Walker offered some his own theories and suggested Haaland’s father was a main reason for his success.

Kyle Walker (L) has revealed his own theories on Erling Haaland’s success at Man City

Speaking to SPORTbible, Walker said: ‘Obviously, he’s come and set the Premier League alight. I think that’s full credit to him and his team around him.

‘It’s down to his dedication to the game, he’s 22, we need to remember that. His diet; do I think that that’s the big part to why he’s had this success? It could be a small part, the small percentages make up for the big things in the long run.

‘But I just put it down to his dedication to the game. I think his dad probably has a big influence in what he does on and off field the field.

‘He probably looks at it and says, ‘Well, this is where I went wrong,’ or ‘this is what really helped me in my game.’

Walker speculates that Haaland’s father – Alfie Haaland – had a big influence on his career

‘As long as he’s doing what he’s doing, and he keeps doing it throughout the season and scoring goals. I’m not too bothered what he eats,’ Walker continued

Previous reports had suggested that it was the forward’s incredible diet – which sees him consume more than 6,000 calories a day, two-and-a-half times more than the average man should – that had lead to his success.

The forward had revealed he eats ‘the heart and the liver’ of cows as he is ‘concerned with taking care of my body’.

Haaland has blown other competitors away in the race for the Premier League golden boot having already notched 17 goals in England’s top-flight.

Walker – who is currently in a race to be fit in time for England’s World Cup campaign this month – reassured fans that he is in-line to make the plane to Qatar.

Walker said: ‘Recovery is going well. I went through a follow up with the guy who did the surgery and he seems happy. The physio that’s been looking after me from the start is happy. So full steam ahead now.’

He spoke on England’s chances of success in Qatar, as he said: ‘We have to be positive, I feel over the past couple of tournaments with the World Cup and the Euros, you know, a semi final in the final, we’ve come so close, you know, to, obviously reaching the final goal.

‘I feel that we’ve earnt the right to be in contention or people to be saying England can go forward, with the recent results that we’ve had in the last number of years.

‘We do know that our Nations League performance in the summer wasn’t good enough.

‘I think it was a kind of a reality slap back down to earth. But I think it was a good one and I’d rather it happened in the Nations League, than the World Cup.

‘Obviously, that’s no disrespect to the Nations League. But, our main goal is to win and be lifting that World Cup come Qatar.’

England will kick-start their World Cup campaign on November 21st when they face Iran in their first Group B encounter.
